Outscraper alternatives: choose by data, workflow and useful cost

Compare Scrap.io, Apify, Google Places and OwnerClue with Outscraper. Includes a fair pilot, separate enrichment costs, source evidence and a practical CSV migration.

Outscraper remains a sensible choice for occasional Google Maps exports and a pipeline that selects its own enrichment services. A replacement makes sense when you need a different delivery workflow, stronger geographic filtering, or reviewable evidence about a business contact. Buying another scraper solely because it advertises a bigger lead count does not resolve those needs.

Choose Scrap.io for a filter-driven dashboard, Apify when developers need to control extraction and orchestration, and Google Places when first-party place data is the application requirement. Consider OwnerClue for supported local searches or an existing domain list where the next job is checking public contact and owner evidence. Keep Outscraper when its modular workflow already gives you what you need.

Start with the piece of Outscraper you actually use

Write down your current input, necessary output, and destination before changing tools. A directory project may need place identifiers, category, address and opening hours. A sales researcher may need a matched website, a public contact and its source. A developer may need asynchronous runs, predictable exports and a way to handle failures. These are separate replacement requirements.

Your main job Shortlist Test the deciding condition
Irregular Maps extraction Keep Outscraper Does selecting fewer services solve the problem?
Filter before downloading local businesses Scrap.io Does your plan support the geographic area and filters?
Custom extraction and event-driven automation Apify Does the selected Actor and its output fit your pipeline?
Source-backed public contact research OwnerClue Can you inspect role evidence and contact association?
Place data inside an application Google Places Do the permitted fields and usage rules fit the application?
A small one-off research list with no software budget Manual website research Can you afford the time and preserve each source?

Treat this as a shortlist, not a promise that any option replaces every Outscraper service. Reviews, photos, phone enrichment and website contact discovery can have different contracts and charging units.

Option Documented starting unit Important condition
Outscraper Maps First 500 businesses free, then $3 per 1,000 in the stated lower-volume band Website contacts and email checks are separate service counters
Scrap.io Basic $49 per month with 10,000 export credits City search; the Basic plan does not include radius or country search
Apify Compass Maps Actor $4 per 1,000 base places on the Free plan The $1.50 headline is the Business-tier base rate; enabled enrichment events cost extra
Google Places Request/SKU and field-mask pricing Place data does not supply an owner-email dataset
OwnerClue One-time 20-credit trial valid for 14 days Check the pricing page and purchase entry for current paid availability before planning production usage

When keeping Outscraper is the strongest option

Outscraper's official pricing separates Maps records, processed contact domains and verified email addresses. On the review date, Maps had a first-500-business free tier, then a $3 per 1,000 band up to 100,000; contacts were metered separately. Pricing tiers reset every 30 days. These are service allowances, not 500 fully researched owners. Outscraper service pricing

That structure gives you control. If a territory-mapping project only needs public business phones, adding owner research to every row may waste money and time. If your existing system already processes domains, sends contacts through a separate verifier and maintains CRM identifiers, changing the extraction source could offer little practical benefit.

The fair question is whether the current gaps come from extraction, website matching or the later cleanup process. Separate those causes before replacing the whole system. Retain Outscraper if you can fix the weak step independently and its export contract is already stable.

Scrap.io: an alternative for filtering before export

Scrap.io's official plan table distinguishes city, administrative-area, radius and polygon searches, rather than giving every plan the same geographic scope. That makes it worth assessing when the shape of your territory is a must-have requirement. Its export-credit model differs from Outscraper's service-by-service usage billing. Scrap.io plan and geographic limits

For example, an agency targeting businesses inside a defined sales territory needs more than a city-name match. Test businesses near the boundary and decide whether adjacent suburbs belong in the campaign. Do not select an entry plan first and discover afterward that the necessary radius or country search requires an upgrade.

The trade-off is paying for a subscription and accepting the plan's limits. A high monthly allowance can be useful for repeatable research, but does not create value if your team only processes a small list once a quarter. Also inspect actual contact sources; a row with an email address does not by itself identify its owner.

Apify: an alternative when you own the pipeline

Apify's Google Maps Scraper documents configurable extraction and optional contact, business-lead and verification enrichment. Its platform documents webhooks for reacting to run events. Evaluate the particular Actor and enabled options, rather than comparing an entire marketplace with one Outscraper endpoint. Google Maps Scraper options, Apify webhook documentation

The benefit is control over how a run enters your workflow. A developer can preserve a dataset, transform fields and route a successful run into downstream processing. The operating cost includes maintaining that mapping, monitoring failures and understanding each selected event's charge.

Before committing, run one small input and inspect the raw output. Check how missing websites, multiple contacts, empty results and partial jobs are represented. Require an explicit rule for retrying a run without creating duplicate CRM rows. Choose Apify when that engineering ownership is useful; a team wanting a reviewed CSV with minimal setup may prefer a narrower product.

OwnerClue: an alternative for evidence review

OwnerClue supports local business discovery and separate enrichment of existing domains. Its full export preserves a person's published role, supporting wording, source URL and capture time, plus contact source and association fields. Inspect the owner-discovery explanation and domain CSV documentation before treating it as a replacement.

Owner extraction requires an explicit owner/founder relationship in the inspected source. A president or manager title alone does not qualify.

This is useful when the question is whether a named person is connected to the business and whether a public email is connected to that person. A founder, president and current legal owner are different claims. A general mailbox can be a valid business contact without being that person's direct address.

The limits affect the choice. Current website research inspects at most five accessible public HTML pages. Domain uploads accept 100 rows per batch and need manual splitting for larger lists. Supported structured owner/founder records are checked first; AI is an optional supplement when enabled and available. There is no automatic registry or LinkedIn sweep, guaranteed owner result, or mailbox delivery verification.

New accounts receive one 20-credit grant lasting 14 days, with no card required. The trial can test a small sample; it is not a recurring free extraction service or a production-volume contract. Check current pricing and the purchase entry for available plans, terms and checkout status; use the billing rules to understand usage.

The current monthly catalog lists Starter at $35 for 10,000 credits, Agency at $89 for 50,000 and Scale at $269 for 200,000. Credits measure billable usage, not verified contacts or owner matches. Annual prices are currently a preview. Compare the published terms and available purchase options on pricing before choosing a production plan.

Google Places and manual research: foundations with different limits

Google's Place Details documentation specifies place fields, field masks and applicable policies. Its published place schema does not include business-email or owner-name fields. That makes it a useful application building block, with a separate research step when your job requires those contacts. Official Place Details documentation

For a short list, manual research can be the most practical foundation. Open the business website, check About, Team and Contact pages, and save the precise role statement and contact source. Keep uncertain identities blank. This costs staff time rather than pretending a free API provides a complete owner-contact dataset.

Compare the cost of the record you will use

Create a worksheet with extraction, domain processing, optional validation, cleanup time and actual accepted contacts as separate rows. Compare paid tiers using the same cadence and include any minimum commitment. Do not compare one vendor's base place record with another vendor's processed contact.

A hypothetical example illustrates the denominator. If a dataset costs $60 and only 40 records meet your prewritten criteria, its data cost is $1.50 per accepted record. If cleanup takes another hour, report that separately or add your chosen hourly rate transparently. This is arithmetic, not a measured result for any vendor.

For OwnerClue, a missing email does not automatically mean a free record. Maps charges for delivered unique businesses within the task; domain enrichment charges for successful readable unique sites in the batch. Consult the billing rules rather than assuming pay-per-found-email economics.

For service-by-service details, use the Outscraper pricing guide and free-tier limits before budgeting the pilot.

Run a pilot that can change your decision

  1. Choose one industry and a tightly defined location. Preserve the same wording and collection date.
  2. Define an accepted business and contact before viewing output. Decide whether a generic inbox is enough.
  3. Run comparable small samples, acknowledging each tool's allowed geography and trial limits.
  4. Review business fit, duplicate branches, website match and supported roles separately.
  5. Count public business-email rows and clearly person-linked email rows separately; validate delivery independently if needed.
  6. Record failed or review rows, actual charges and minutes spent repairing the export.

If one vendor returns more rows, inspect the additional rows before calling its coverage better. Nearby unrelated businesses can inflate volume. Likewise, a smaller result set can miss relevant businesses. Publish both counts and the acceptance rule if you later share the evaluation.

Migrate the useful data without losing its meaning

Archive the original export. Keep source identifiers, business name, address, domain and collection date in a master table. Map location records separately from company records when multiple branches share one domain. Carry suppression and previous-contact notes into the new workflow before sending anything.

Add role, evidence URL, email category and association status as separate fields. Do not merge every contact into one column called owner email. Preserve the full research CSV alongside any simplified CRM import. A CSV handoff does not automatically provide a live CRM integration.

A concrete Outscraper CSV to domain-enrichment handoff

Outscraper's documented response example uses name, site and place_id. A CSV template can label columns differently, so confirm your actual headers first. The following records are fictional and demonstrate the handoff. Official response fields.

name,site,place_id
Example Roofing,https://example.com/contact?ref=maps,example-location-1
Example Roofing East,https://example.com/locations/east,example-location-2
Example Without Website,,example-location-3

Keep that original file as the location master. Extract the hostname from each usable site, remove the scheme, path and query, normalize it, and deduplicate for website research. The website list below is a demonstration, not a real lead or an observed extraction result.

domain,name
example.com,Example Roofing
Original field Destination Review decision
site or your export's website column domain Pass a bare domain, not a contact-page URL
name Optional name input Check that it refers to the entity represented by the website
place_id, address, phone Original master file Preserve each branch; these are not domain-upload fields
No usable website Separate unresolved queue Find the business's correct website before enrichment
Returned owner_quote and owner_source_url Evidence archive Inspect the role and whether it applies to the local branch
Returned email_category and email_association_status Contact review Keep business inboxes distinct from person-linked email

Submit no more than 100 rows per domain batch. Two branches sharing example.com need one website research input and two preserved location records; a head-office role is not automatically the owner of both branches. Keep uncertain associations in review. After completion, join reviewed website evidence back to the master by domain while retaining the place identifiers. Preserve blanks and keep full evidence CSV alongside the CRM import. The domain enrichment workflow documents current input limits, duplicate handling and result fields.

Questions that affect the final choice

Is another tool automatically cheaper? No. Compare your actual volume, subscription commitment, optional services and accepted records. A large unused allowance can cost more than a small modular run.

Does public email discovery replace verification? No. Discovery establishes where an address appeared; delivery verification asks a separate technical question. Neither proves that the person still owns the business.

Can I keep Outscraper and add OwnerClue? Yes, as a manual workflow using an existing domain list within the batch limits. Evaluate that narrower change before replacing a working discovery source.

What should I do next? Define one accepted-record rule, then use a small OwnerClue workspace sample if evidence review is your missing step. Keep the incumbent if it already passes the same test.
