ChatGPT and source-backed local-business research
Use assisted research for a few businesses and a repeatable task workflow for a batch. In both cases, check original sources, published roles and missing information.
A useful record needs evidence
For a few businesses, prepare a table with business website, person name, published role, supporting text, source URL and checked date. Ask for unknown values to remain blank and open the cited pages yourself. Do not promote a founder or manager to current owner without additional evidence.
OpenAI's search guidance advises opening sources to check their support and freshness. Its accuracy guidance explains that responses can be incorrect. A confident sentence alone is not a contact-data verification result.
For a batch, keep row-level outcomes
OwnerClue starts from a city/industry Maps search or an existing domain list. The workflow retains source evidence, website review flags, duplicate handling and CSV. Existing domains are limited to 100 rows per batch; 200 websites require two batches.
What to check in either workflow
| Check | Useful record |
|---|---|
| Business/site match | Compared business name, address or phone and source |
| Person role | Name plus exact published role, quote and URL |
| Freshness | Person/contact capture or checked date |
| Missing information | Blank rather than guessed values |
| Public email | Source and association; independent delivery check if needed |
OwnerClue's current website inspection is bounded to public HTML pages and can miss information. It does not automatically search every registry/social source or verify email delivery. Use the source dictionary to understand what each field means.
Choose the workflow based on volume and the evidence you need. A small manually checked table may be sufficient; a batch needs repeatable input, status and exports. Neither approach should be described as guaranteed owner identification.
